Re: The whole kit and caboodle, how's it done

Here's a video that gives a good view of Padraig McGovern's right thumb when he's playing. The real action is when he finishes the air (anyone know the name of it?) and goes on to the march (The Fairy Troupe).

Re: Identify pipes ?

I'm no expert at identification but they look like Ginsberg's work to me.

David Power in Portland

I just wanted to mention that David Power will be performing in the Portland, Oregon area on the 16th and 17th, this Friday and Saturday, and giving a workshop on Sunday the 18th. The Friday concert is by reservation and the Saturday one is open to anyone who shows up. Preregistration is required fo...

Re: Preston Howard - The Primrose Glen

Lovely CD. It certainly sounds like Preston's Boxwood Angus concert set.
That's it in the video.

Re: A good word for Richard Patkos.

It's nice that you didn't stop with complaining about him, but went on to talk with him about his business practices. Sounds like he's turned around for you at least. Hopefully other customers will profit from your efforts. I hope so, because it seems like a lot of people are happy with his chanters.

Re: Sightreading and piping

Great suggestion, Murk. Learning by ear is easier when you are listening someone who is playing with the intention of teaching the tune. You might also want to check out youtube, there's several tunes played for learners up there. Look particularly for Patrick D'Arcy.

Re: NPU rubber bellows connector

The connector is 6" long. One of my sets has a fairly long blowpipe, and the 6 inch connector is the perfect length. The other set has a short blowpipe so I have part of a second connector fastened to it and I use a piece of 1/2" ID vinyl tubing to connect the two. The tubing is a bit slic...

Re: Leonard Barry's pipes have been stolen.

Leonard Barry is a piper based in Dublin. I believe that his pipes were stolen over the weekend. There are photos on https://www.facebook.com/leonard.barry.3/posts/10206380291330662. The set is distinctive, having four drones and a double drone switch. I've asked Leonard to supply the other informat...

Leonard Barry's pipes have been stolen.

Leonard Barry's pipes have been stolen. The following is from his FaceBook post. Hi all! Our House was broken into and my set of Pipes were stolen. They're Stainless Steel and ebony with imitation ivory mounts. An extra 4th drone and the set has a double switch at the stock. There's an inscription o...

Re: How important are keys, really?

The c and f natural keys come in very handy. If I were ordering a new chanter I would be sure that it had these two. The other keys are nice when you need them, but I at least rarely need them.
