I just read straycat's post and wanted to add that I also do the soap treatment at full-strength (and Jet-Dry at close to full-strength).

Re: RIP 2 Burke whistles. Warning: Controversy

Basically, after a short period of playing, both whistles SEEM to clog up. . . . Any resonance of experience out there??? Yes, actually. I have a D-WBB and a C of the same vintage, both from the year 2000. I noticed a similar thing starting a few months ago, but only with the D. It seems that it ei...

FS - Burke Low D Aluminum Viper ... price reduced

Need to sell for financial reasons.

Made in 2005. Fantastic whistle, in great shape, aside from a couple of surface scratches (I can email pictures on request).

I'd like to get $185 (which includes insured shipping within the USA).
PM if interested.

Thanks,
Lisa

^ ^ ^ Yes, that. :) I was about to post this from another thread ... some overlap in information here, but .... There are some great tutorials out there. The Bill Ochs book/tape from Clarke was the starting point for many of us. Also, Cathal McConnell's 3 CD and Book from homespuntapes.com is very g...

Re: Altitude and humidity

and temperature of course. They all affect tuning. I live in Colorado so all my playing is above 5,000 feet -- sometimes above 9 or 10,000 feet. It's usually very dry here and often cool. I love this climate, but it all tends to make a whistle play flat. This was driven home yesterday when I ran ac...

I'm not sure if I'm listening to the same part as you are, but ... you're right ... there are extra notes in there. I took the liberty of deciding what was ornamentation and what was straight melody, and only wrote down the melody. Then when I played it, I added my own ornamentation. But the base me...

You're welcome!

The guitar chords could easily be changed here and there ... I just picked out what sounded right to my ear and threw in a few bass notes to add some interest.

Re: How do you care for and store a Burke Composite whistle?

How do you care for and store/carry a Burke composite whistle? I've just gotten a Burke Composite Narrow Bore D. It sure is lightweight and thin-walled. I'm amazed that Mike can machine something this delicate. Are these whistles fragile? Do you store them in something more substantial than a soft ...

A clarification ... this is sheet music (notes), not dots or ABC notation. :) Around here, 'sheet music' is lovingly referred to as 'the dots', :) ... though I suppose the term may be used by some for whistle tab. Ah ... that makes sense. Good to know! A number of people have been requesting the mu...

Thanks for all the tips, but I still can't find the music for it. I'll have to learn it the old fasioned way, by ear. As it turns out, I wrote out the sheet music for this tune based on that YouTube clip. If you PM me your email address, I'll send it to you. I can send a .pdf and/or a Finale Notepa...

By the way, that video is so cute! Isn't it nice to see some young people getting famous on YouTube playing Irish music. That's what I thought, with all the things kids could potentially spend their time on these days. I haven't been able to interest my own kids in ITM (yet :)), but they do spend a...
