Re: Bonny Prince Charlie.....flute player ?

There may be no evidence that it belonged to Bonnie Prince Charlie, but you do have to ask, who else could have been in possession of a flute like that in Scotland at the time? I bet not too many.

Re: 2nd Edinburgh "Flute Fling" : Sat.9th May 2015

Thanks for the info Kenny. I'm trying to decide whether to do the lessons for the keyless flute or the silver Boehm. I normally play the wooden keyless flute but I haven't really got to grips with the Boehm. Even holding it feels really strange so it's just been stored away for a few years. I'll bri...

Oh wow! I would like to come along. I've been playing the flute by myself for a few years now and really want to start playing with other people. But any techniques I can get to improve my playing would be great.

Re: old wooden flute

Twenty years ago I was visiting my grandmother in Germany. She went down to the cellar and brought out her mandolin that she had bought sixty years ago. I started playing on it not know how the thing was meant to be tuned and she ended up giving it to me. I still have it and recently got it out agai...

FS: Sweetheart keyless cherry Low D

Hello all! I'm seriously short of money at the moment because my car broke down in Holland after only owning it for 3 weeks. It needs a new engine. Just getting it back to the UK cost an arm and a leg. So I am selling off my collection of flutes (all except one that is). I've listed a low D cherry S...

Re: Starter flutes

I found a Sweetheart flute very easy to learn on. I bought an early model in their sale and the import taxes really bumped up the price, and I still had to wait many weeks for it to get through customs. I then bought a much more recent practically new Sweetheart from ebay at half the price of my fir...

Re: flute video...250,000+ hits

If you want to make a flute video and get over 200,000 hits, here's what you need to do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5N2VPGWGZ4 I might try dressing in Renaissance garb and frolicking through the forest, fluting here, fluting there, modulating to a different key at the end--might actually make...

Re: Looking to start playing with others

Thanks for the links and suggestions. I think I will have to find out what songs they play in the local pub (Sandy Bell's) then go off and learn them. Otherwise I might learn a load and find that no one else knows them. I read a couple of monster threads from thesession.org about improvisation that ...

Looking to start playing with others

So far I've only ever played alone at home but I'm thinking of going out and playing with other people now. Trouble is that I'm not really sure how to go about it. When I was a teenager I spent all my spare time playing the electric guitar in my bedroom and improvising. I became confident enough to ...

Re: Effect of Teeth Braces on your Embouchure

Well there goes my excuse for giving up the flute when I was a teenager. I think I got a note out of my silver flute once and then couldn't remember how I did it. I blamed my braces. 20 years later when I started playing the Irish flute I spent a week just constantly picking up every few minutes and...

Re: eBay Flute

I really don't know why foreigners think of Benny Hill when they think of British comedy. It's just not typical. Look at Blackadder, Red Dwarf or Faulty Towers if you want to point at something more representative.

Why not just buy a good flute secondhand and save loads of cash?
