Re: Electronic whistle?

I had the technopipe with gaita fingering, then I switched to Degerpipe II+ because I needed to practice also French and medieval (German) fingering. They both are excellent tool to practice bagpipes but they are not ideal to practice whistle, even using gaita fingering (which is pretty close to whi...

Buying a Daye Penny Chanter from Europe

Hi,
has someone had experience in ordering a Penny Chanter from Europe?
I would like to order a C chanter, the price seems reasonable but I'm terrified by customs expenses: I live in Italy, I had bad experiences in the past buying stuff from USA.

Re: Song / Tune identification

Ok someone found the answer, the original song is called "Alasdair Mhic Cholla Ghasda". Probably I heard it sung by Capercaiile.

Song / Tune identification

Hi all,
I'm trying to find the source of this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMdFVlp_28w
In the video I linked it's singed in a Lombard dialect by an Italian band, but I'm pretty sure I heard it sung in Gaelic some years ago: unfortunately I don't even remember by whom.
Any hints?

Re: Suggestions for first set of Scottish Smallpipes in D

The scale is A mixolydian so the same notes as D major. So there are lots of Irish tunes that can be played on A chanter and be in the right key for UP, fiddle whistle etc. I'm curious about that. It's true that the two scales share the same notes but the pipes are limited to a single octave: do th...

Re: Any Beginners Out There?

I started a year ago (so I will become a proficient payer in 2035 :) ). I think there are many reasons why few people decide to play the uilleann: first of all you need to know they exists and it's not easy if you aren't deeply into the itm scene ("listen to this 'twilight of the celtic harp sp...

Re: Learning the Renaissance small pipes

My two cents A guy in our medieval band plays the Hummelchen. The sound is very quiet, comparable in volume to a tin whistle played in the first octave (actually my susato is slightly louder). For those asking: the fingering is open, pretty much the same of a recorder. An Hummelchen in c/d means tha...

Re: thisway we sell bagpipes!

The video immediately made me fell in love with this instrument: the perfect tuning, the drone stability, the sound of the chanter... all is perfect.
I'm going to sell my gaita to definitely buy one of those.

Re: Easiest smallpipes for whistler - Leicestershire perhaps?

The Gaita Galega has a fingering very close to the Tin Whistle (actually, I often use the Penny Whistle as a practice chanter for my gaita). They are usually in Do (C), so imagine to use a C Whistle :) Update: sorry, I didn't read you're talking explicitly about smallpipes, I don't think there is a ...

[maybe OT?] Swedish spelpipa/spilåpipa fingering

Hi, I don't know if I have post on the proper forum... During an holiday in Stockholm I bought a 7 hole spilåpipa (to be more precise, this one: http://www.musikmuseet.se/museibutik/detalj.php?l=en&mmcss=&kid=3&biid=67 ) but I wasn't able to find a fingering chart on the web (at least go...
