Re: Which flute keys are the best keys?

If you have both F natural keys you will use them both. The C natural key, while not essential, is the most widely used (according to Terry). I find it simplifies playing many passages (I use the cross-fingered C Nat often too, mostly for the same reason. Above all there is a wealth of gorgeous musi...

Also without rings. Dave C makes one and it looks elegant. I have one and it's lighter than my other keyless flutes (except bamboo).

Re: Oil Question

'Would it still be advisable to have this looked into, or is it doing it’s job now? It was the ring at the foot of the flute.' Suggest you make sure humidity is alright and then get on with things. No need to have it checked if they stay as they are.

Just to second Steve's suggestion that you see a teacher. Good to do this at the beginning of flooting anyway.

Re: Flute Crutch?

hi the mike m method is discouraged by teachers, but it is an option anyway. Best to see if you can do it another way first. With pipers grip the weight of the flute is borne by the left thumb. When I use pipers), my left thumb is pushing up, and it's a bit on the far side of the barrel. The rt thum...

Re: Flattening the second octave

Strong focused embouchure, blow down into the hole, try to play the second octave notes less loud (or at least no louder) than the first octave. I think of 'crafting' the second octave notes. Takes practice.

Re: Beginner flute question: Carbony, wood, etc

Also if you buy a flute worth buying you can later sell it to help fund another. That's happening on chiffandfipple and also the Irish Flute Store and other venues. The choice isn't written in cement.

Re: Wooden Boehm flutes

The Boehms lent themselves to mass production, and they are cylindrical--both mean the maker has less to do and so lower the price. Also supply and demand are playing a role. The makers of the best 8 keys were, after the Boehms came in, still making 8 keys for a long while too and I expect the Boehm...

Re: Wooden Boehm flutes

here you go. https://www.irishflutestore.com/product ... -headjoint

Also the Irish Flute Store sometimes sells old wooden Boehm flutes by good makers (Blayne is helpful). Such flutes are also available occasionally in other venues online, so if you watch them you will probably find one.
