I own a Goldie narrow bore low D, with a medium hard blower mouthpiece. While I consider the overall sound of the whistle to be more complex in overtones over that of some low D's, it is in line with all Goldie instruments. I would not call it scratchy or breathy.

I have not heard WHOAD discussed for a long time. In my whistle infancy, a whole lot of years ago, it was the following;

Yes... Hole #3 on my instrument is larger than on other low Ds I have played. However, it is not quite as large as is seen in the pictures on this thread. Yes, Richard, mine does have the rings. Interestingly enough, for my hands they make holding the instrument much more comfortable than a standard low D.

What is the make of the whistle, and the material it is made out of, Steve?
