Re: http://www.kmbagpipes.com

Kenneth had been living in Round Rock, Texas and was making pipes there, but relocated back to Scotland several years ago now.

WTB/FT Decent hurdy gurdy

Looking for a decent Hurdy Gurdy as the missus has taken up quite some interest. I know very little about the instrument, but would like a well made one. Happy to discuss your selling price and/or trade for other instruments (perhaps a uilleann pipe chanter, flute, whistles, bodhran, etc). Thanks, Rob

Re: Narrow bore D

Hi Ken- lucky you, that set is truly lovely in aesthetic and tone. Hopefully you'll convince George to bring it out. I think it's the set recorded on Bill Haneman's site here: http://billhaneman.ie/soundfiles/AnBonnanBui.mp3 but you might double check.

Re: Narrow bore D

I believe that Derrick Gleeson has his measurements from Geoff Wooff (please correct me if I'm wrong about this!). I have a narrow D 3/4 set by Geoff and am delighted with them. I think these are more of a scaled down Harrington (since evolved) whereas I think Joe Kennedy's might be derived from the...

Re: Regulator key alignment?

Thanks for the insight all! Bill- never crossed my mind that having the short keys the same length might almost automatically result in that sort of arrangement (looking again at the Froment set I suppose that could possibly be the case). I suppose I'd thought that if one was going to take the troub...

Re: Regulator key alignment?

Many thanks for the replies PJ and Geoff. Yes, I suppose if its intentional it all could simply come down to custom fitting and/or allowing for easier reach for alternative chords. Here are some modern sets that also illustrate similar sorts of arrangements: http://s29.postimg.org/a26ws82mb/froment_...

Regulator key alignment?

Hi all- I have noticed what seem to be important differences in regulator key alignment on several sets. I'm not sure that's what you call it, but for the sake of my own ignorance I call it either "fanned" or "straight" key alignment. Here is an image to compare what I mean (an s...

Longshot- K&Q D chanter FT

Hi All- Hope not to disturb too many with this post. I have a 5 keyed Koehler and Quinn D chanter (2002) in ebony that I do not play terribly often as I spend far more time playing a 3/4 set of narrow D pipes by Geoff Wooff. It is a splendid chanter for what it is, but I feel that it would be better...

Re: Michael Hubbert

Hi- the email address I've used in the past to get in touch with Michael is hubberts@mcn.org. I have a set of pipes he made (the ebony set on his homepage http://michaelhubbertuilleannpipes.com/) and have been delighted with them since delivery.

Re: Stuck in US Customs??

I'll echo those sentiments. When sending instruments from the EU to the US I would commonly have issues with delays at customs. Sometimes it seemed as if parcels would sail right through, other times delays of 10-20 days would occur. I wouldn't be able to tell you why sometimes parcels are flagged f...

Re: Narrow Bore D Set -- Recommended Makers

Geoff Wooff without hesitation. You will find narrow D sets from him available from time to time, perhaps there is still a set listed on the uilleannobession site? Otherwise perhaps Derrick Gleeson?

Clever how he incorporated the bass bar tuning slide with the wraparound. Lovely!

Re: bass regulator detachable?

Michael Hubbert has added a clever tuning slide to this bass regulators where the bass bar itself can be lengthened or shortened to tune. There are index markings on the bar as well. The whole of the bar then can be removed for storage in a case, the reed never being exposed.
