Re: Hobgoblin USA

I bought a Dixon Trad from them about 3 months ago. It was delivered promptly and without incident. I would not hesitate to order from them again.

Re: discussion for learning tunes on thesession.org

Wouldn't it be great... If there was a database for actual session recordings from around the world. You could just click on a tune and here it (MP3) played by a session in Dublin, another session in New York, another in Chicago, Frankfurt, London, etc. This would be particularly helpful to someone ...

Re: Holding your breath/Breathing

Some thoughts from an old (retired) high school band director... Keep your mouth on the mouthpiece when you inhale. More specifically, keep your upper and lower lips touching the mouthpiece. Spread your mouth wide like making a broad smile, so you are taking in air at the sides while your top and bo...

Re: Hello

I'm sure you are doing great. Keep at it and don't get discouraged if you have a bad day and seem to be without progress. Most of your squeaking comes form a hole that is not well covered, or simply the wrong air speed for the note you are attempting. Be sure to cover the holes with the soft, fleshy...

"Not like riding a bike."

More movie whistling...

I just saw Sherlock Holmes which was a quite entertaining action film with great special effects. Of course it took place in London around the late 1800s... strange to be using traditional Irish music with some whistling... a fellow singing a jig along with a whistle.

Now I need to learn another instrument!

So I am 6 weeks into learning the tin whistle. A couple of weeks ago I made the mistake of mentioning to my wife another instrument that I found fascinating. And what do I find lurking under the Christmas tree this morning... a brand new Bodhran! It's an 18 inch tunable model complete with tipper an...

I wonder if I could play faster if I did not drink good Irish whiskey while practicing?

Re: Avatar

I usually do not like 3D pictures. I always find myself wanting to remove the glasses. But I guess the technology is improving. In the 2.5 hour flick, I only took them off one time. I mostly just forgot about them, even though I had to wear them over my regular glasses. No headaches here! before the...
