Re: Cruinniú Na bhFliúit..The Flute Meeting

This whole thing is intensely annoying to me personally. :sniffle: Having spent some years living less than an hour's drive from Ballyvourney (and I did attend a couple of workshops there) I left at the end of 2005 for Sydney (hard to get much further). Then they have the idea to start this meeting!...

Re: German flutes and cracked barrels

Funny you should mention the connection between lining and cracking. I have a friend, proper craftsman and instrument maker (not woodwind) who thinks that when wood shrinks, the hole down the middle will get bigger, because the wood "shrinks away" from it. He thinks I am stupid, or obstina...

Re: Any tips for playing the Catharsis Reel?

I don't know the tune, though I did once hear a reel in Gminor at a session. That was an antisocial thing to do. It won't become popular without changing key.
PS Just found it being played on youtube. Just the sort of tune I am not drawn to. Good luck to those who are!

Re: Embouchure mystery

Yes, though not in that form. In the relatively early days I'd notice the tone (poor as it was) fading altogether untill I took a few minutes rest. Re: Free Flute CD Pat FitzpatricK/Ken Murphy/Eamonn de Barra

flute playing is supposed to get us in a state of relaxation, not in a state like we had finished a gallon of coffee. So you're new to ITM? True, much of this is very much on the faster side, and I for one prefer things slower. But the speed on these recordings is far from uncommon. Who "suppo...

Re: So they made Guitars as well !

I note that the sellers comment favourably on the guitar's tone. Interestingly, they have done so about a guitar with one string missing, and another string flapping about in the breeze. One might be forgiven for guessing that the other four have not been tuned up. They say "The guitar is very ...

Re: Flute Photos!!! Come post your flute pictures :)

OK, here's my collection. First, all four: http://alex-wilding.com/Musicpics/all4.jpg The collection is really quite small. At the top, the reddish one was the cheapest, a Pakistani keyless that actually plays quite well, although there is a bit of a question mark over the pitch. Next, one of the gh...
