Re: Under $125 low D whistle recommendations
I use a Tony Dixon low D (about £90, not sure what that is in dollars).
Well tuned, easy to play and good tone, if a little quiet. I recommend it.

Re: Mystery Flute
Wow, that's a lot of replies... I had suspected, after not being able to find a maker on the eBay listing, that it might be the kind of flute warned about in the sticky. I've found a good bargain on a Dixon 3-piece (similar price) that I think would be the safer option from the sounds of these comme...

Mystery Flute
Spotted what appears to be a good bargain on a flute on eBay, but I'm not sure of its origins, so I'm not sure if it'll be any good. Anyone know anything about the flute, or the seller? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-TRADITIONAL-IRISH-KEYLESS-6-HOLE-WOODEN-FLUTE-wfr-/230488087956?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_W...

Was just watching this, thought it was excellent and thought I would share it.
Also, does anyone know anything about the tune, or the whistle?

Yeah, The Session's good for tunes, but not so much if chords are what you're after...Whistler from Oz wrote:This last week I've found http://www.thesession.org a gold mine for new tunes, with chord progressions[ Fixed URL. - Mod. ]

Try JC's ABC Tune Finder: http://trillian.mit.edu/~jc/cgi/abc/tunefind When you're looking down the list once you've searched for your tune, the ones that have speechmarks will have accompanying chords. (In the band I play in, the guitarists have been appreciative of this website on more than one oc...

Re: TheFluteMaker.com ????
Hmm, I'd not expected to see wooden whistles around £30 like that! If they're any good... That said, I'd prefer a tuneable one, and his tuneable whistles are too expensive for me. Anyone know of any other makers of low-cost wooden whistles? I'm thinking of getting myself a new whistle, probably spen...

Re: Tips for Tuning a Feadog/Generation
Anyway, Feadog whistleheads aren't glued. Most will come off if you twist and pull. Don't worry about breaking the whistlehead. I've removed hundreds and never broken one. Once in awhile, they're too tight to get loose that way, in which case, heat some water to near boiling. Hold the whistlehead i...

Re: Tips for Tuning a Feadog/Generation
I'll try the hot water thing first, I'm afraid of damaging the head if I just twist and pull.
I shall report back on my success/failure.
(PS - Tried and failed to find a thread on this topic. Can anyone link me?)

Tips for Tuning a Feadog/Generation
So, I was thinking I'd have a go at tuning my Feadog D, 'cos it's a bit sharp.
Just run it under a hot tap to loosen the head, and then it'll be tuneable? Is it that simple, or are there complications and difficulties that I need to bear in mind?

Re: Moving onto low whistles...any advice?
Thought I'd let you all know, I did eventually get my low whistle today! I went for a tuneable Dixon alloy, and I am pleased with it.
Thanks for all your advice.
