Re: Purchasing a Sindt whistle

I finally got mine that I ordered last year. I have to say: WOW! What a whistle. This thing has some of the sweetest tones I've ever heard and it hits all the notes just right. I can't stop playing it and I would recomend it to anyone.

Great whistle.

Re: Any tin whistle classes or teachers near DC?

I tried to email Laura Egan and so far no reply. The website doesn't list any of the spring classes yet.

Re: No whistle Youtube thread? Well then!

Yeah she is amazing. Something for me to aspire to. Anyway, here is my first attempt at the Monaghan Jig after watching her video and practicing for a week: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KczWWRxgDEE It was recorded on my phone so the quality was probably not that good. Of course my playing sucks to...

Re: Any tin whistle classes or teachers near DC?

Hmm are there any teachers closer to Frederick MD than Baltimore? I live between Mt. Airy and Urbana and would love to find a good teacher.

Re: Foggy Dew sheet music with tablature

Thanks, it sounds like I need to find myself a traditional irish whistle teacher to teach me the various embellishments that are acceptable in a traditional piece. Right now I follow along in videos because their embellishments sounds good to me, so I try to copy them.

Re: No whistle Youtube thread? Well then!

I dunno if these have been posted before but I love this girl's playing. I'm currently learning the Monaghan's jig from these two videos:

Re: Foggy Dew sheet music with tablature

MoonDragn, Remember that any written arrangement will be someone's interpretation of a tune, and that there may be lots of variations, some that you may like, and some you may not. Hope you like mine. :D Mark hmm so it is ok to put your own variations in? I noticed that in some parts I started play...

Re: Butterfly Jig Question

I learned to play it with a Cnat in the B part. I think Michael Eskin in the video also plays Cnats in the B part. Well thats the reason why I was wondering about it. I can pick up the difference in the notes and I noticed those C naturals thats why I was asking some of these questions. The problem...

Re: Online Learning

I learn most of my tin whistle playing from the internet. I don't have the time in real life to find a teacher to teach me.

Re: Butterfly Jig Question

Ahhh thanks! I always marvel at people who can just read right off the sheet music and figure out the tempo. Even counting to myself using the tricks, I still have problems figuring out a piece of music unless I listen to it first. With Jigs like this it is hard to pick up all the nuances.

Re: Butterfly Jig Question

Thanks! I was refering to the sheet music posted by the session.com. I'm just not that familiar with the variations and ornamentations when I hear to to tell the difference between that and the sheet version. So trying to learn the tempo from someone playing a variation is very difficult for me. In ...

Re: New Beginner

Aanvil wasn't making funny Denny is right. I'm not being funny I'm being kind. Susato. They can be very loud and have a particular sound. You might find out in a few years you can actually control it and you also may know where it might be best used. So never say never. Buy as many whistles as you ...

Re: Foggy Dew sheet music with tablature

Thanks for that link! I had originally found the sheet music version that starts FABAF etc... Since I couldn't hit the lower octave C, I had originally moved up to the higher F in the 2nd octave. It sounded a little too high to me so I watched some videos until I figured out how to move it up to the...

Butterfly Jig Question

I wanted to learn a jig so I picked out one that I liked. After finding the sheet music, and the tabs, I practiced hard to get it right, but had a lot of problems with the rhythm. I tried to watch some youtube videos to learn the correct tempo, but then I noticed a lot of them are playing different ...

No I assure you after playing this thing I won't be going back to the susato. However it won't stop me from buying new whistles.
