Re: Somers flute blows flat

The seller got back to me, and he didn't notice the flute blowing flatter than any of his other flutes, so either he subconsciously adjusted something, or it's just me. Is this your first Prattens type flute? Initially playing flat on a large hole/large bore flute is not uncommon for those coming f...

Re: Delrin flute suggestions for 2024?

Loren...my Copley is on the heavier side because it does have a fully lined head joint/tuning slide, foot joint, and 8 keys. In retrospect, I would have asked for an unlined heajoint, which would have helped. I think my 8 key delrin Copley weighs close to 2 ounces more than my 8 key cocus Wylde. Da...

Re: Delrin flute suggestions for 2024?

All the Delrin/Polypenco flutes I've tried were very heavy, much heavier that the wood flutes I've owned. Says the guy who plays bagpipes! Which Delrin flutes have you tried? Since you haven’t played flute in….decades?…. I am guessing you are talking about the original M&E and Seery polym...

Re: Does an easy-to-play flute lead to a lazy or poorly developed embouchure?

That being said, the flute I settled on (Shannon) was quite easy to play and get a good tone on, and that definitely helped fuel my progress. I suppose it depends on the individual what exactly they want to get out of the experience, and where they want to go! I agree. I do think there is a percept...

Re: Does an easy-to-play flute lead to a lazy or poorly developed embouchure?

Psychologically, I'd say that a newcomer taking up an "easier" flute would absolutely give them more incentive to practice and play, and probably ultimately help them improve. However, over the past year I have mainly played two flutes, we'll call them flute A and flute B. I've noticed th...

Re: Does an easy-to-play flute lead to a lazy or poorly developed embouchure?

I don't disagree but defining an 'easy to play' instrument can be tricky. Agreed, that’s where recommendations from reliable sources for a good quality, easy to play (relatively speaking) instrument comes into play. But then there’s the discussion of “what are reliable sources for recommendations”,...

Re: Does an easy-to-play flute lead to a lazy or poorly developed embouchure?

“Does an easy-to-play flute lead to a lazy or poorly developed embouchure? How to discern this if I am unexperienced?” No. As a beginner the most critical aspect to overall improvement is the ability to successfully participate in the endeavor. One needs correct, consistent practice over a long peri...

Re: FS: Goldie High D, Susato Oriole High D, Susato Kildare VS High E

 Absolutely no idea. I mean, people have gotten a bit annoyed with me on here from time to time, but I never PMed anyone and don't ever remember receiving a PM, so I'm not sure why that privilege in particular would be revoked. I could be mistaken, but I don't think I could *ever* PM people on...

By “you”, I mean Cyberknight. When I go to preferences, I already have "allow other users to send you private messages" checked. There's also a "private messages" tab on my profile, but when I click on it, it just says "You are not authorised to read private messages."...

You appear to have PM’s disabled. You will need to turn this option on in your control panel.

Re: Low Whistle Player

The crux of the controversy has only to do with how he presents himself as a expert in Irish Trad, and nothing else. If you're not so interested in the real deal and you like his music, that's fine, but his treatment of well-known Trad tunes and airs suggest that his claim to expertise is spurious....

Re: Cillian O’Briain Low Whistle D Tunable.

Hi! I assume you mean a generation style whistle? You're in luck, they've actually just launched their new website today. They posted about it on Facebook. 50 euro for a D whistle plus postage. Definitely good value. No, that’s not what the OP means, those are Soprano whistles, not low whistles. Ci...
