Re: On the Death of Clocks
I once changed my mobile phone time by an hour when the clocks when forward or back. But this was some time ago and I didn't realise then that it updated automatically so I actually ended winding it forward or back, whichever it was, an extra extra hour. That would never have happened with manual cl...

Re: green fields of glentown
Thanks, i had a look at the sheet music today, it's definitely playable on an unkeyed d flute although awkward to handle but perhaps worth the effort. Other tunes i've struggled with are dr gilbert's and maudhabawn chapel. I think if there were versions notated for flute where you can see how an exp...

green fields of glentown
Any tips on how to tackle this on the flute? I suppose it's the usual go high where you can't go low. It's a beautiful tune, i'd love to add it to my repertoire.

Re: cover pictures in An Piobaire
For recognition of their contribution to uilleann piping, perhaps someone who's hosted a piping club for many years and has welcomed newcomers and helped players to progress. Perhaps for want of a better phrase unsung heroes. Such a person I heard about recently is Noel Devine in Belfast who's helpe...

Re: The scale according to Liam O'Flynn
John Murphy (who i never knew but happened to speak to a few times at clancy week) used this same technique when playing an a roll in the lower octave and stated that he'd got it from Liam whom I understand he was quite friendly with, having on occasion been invited to his home to play tunes.

cover pictures in An Piobaire
This is probably a slightly odd question. Which piper(s) do you consider most deserving of a cover picture in An Piobaire who hasn't yet had this honour? (that's not to say that anyone who has already been on the cover didn't deserve the honour). I'd imagine most of the high profile pipers around ha...

Re: Ebay Items
There were a couple of dodgy listings for the perennial Crowley and Kennedy sets. Looks like an eagle-eyed chiff and fippler has been in touch with eBay as they've already been removed.

Re: How big is your repertoire?
yes, flute - i'm not 100% sure about my estimate, although recently i've been trying to compile a list as a reference/aide-memoire which will hopefully provide a more accurate figure

Re: How big is your repertoire?
I think I probably know roughly 600 tunes. I would imagine that session players who can play almost anything you throw at them must have a great many more.
