Re: Why are Irish sessions so fraught?
That's a bit blunt, FC, but yeah, you're right. Trouble is, some yanks don't handle directness like that very well. They have a tendency to shoot the messenger instead of reflecting on the proffered wisdom, even when it's not meant to be insulting  YOU HAVE TO GET THE MESSAGE ACROSS , we all h...

Re: Why are Irish sessions so fraught?
I feel I just have to share this now. I'm on my own with these little tunes and the way they're played. You can't bring them to a session really, you know how these Irish sessions are, everybody wants to pretty much to play together. So if you introduce something new and most people don't bring tap...

Typical answer, one I would expect ''' maybe next years fleadhcheoil organizers will thank and name those who actually do the real work. not the hangers on, who like their names in lights,Martin Donohoe wrote:LOL

Re: Cavan to Host All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil 2010

Re: Cavan to Host All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil 2010
Great to see the Fleadh in Cavan, not much time left to get things moving, on a trip to Cavan this year I searched in the phone book for CCE branches, could not find any, I found it hard to find phone numbers of musicians in Cavan, so I missed out on any sessions , I did hear of a session in the Ben...

Re: Beware of cheap ebay flutes!
alibaba.com is a Marketplace, much like eBay, and has its share of scammers. One of the payment methods mentioned is Western Union, often not safe. The previous poster is not even pointing to a specific manufacturer there, or their physical location at all. Of the current listings for "Flutes&...

Re: Beware of cheap ebay flutes!
How about a "sticky" at the top of this forum warning people away from Pakistani ebay flutes? The question seems to come up fairly regularly, and there's only one answer! Pakistani flutes cost $80 in Pakistan, greed ensures they are sold for $350 in many music shops around the world, they...

Re: FLUTE PARTS
Message received and answered, Frank. Heh heh, it never rains but it pours, as the old saying goes. I was just discussing on the flutemakers list how I keep getting sent flutes with post-mounted keys that have broken off at the hinge tube. So you can guess what Frank has. The long F in his case, hi...

Re:
Only two notes to add to the sticky: 1.) How can you tell something is a Pakistani flute? 2.) List characteristics for determining same so this doesn't become a "Is this a Pakistani Firewood in the Key of D" post. I think we're using the term "Pakistani flute" to mean Pakistani ...
