Re: Wooden Whistle - $5.95 from Elderly

hmmm! not sure I understand the nature of my crime. It's just as well that not too many people have read my post because I want Feadog and Generation to stay in business.

Re: Whistles and Tinnitus

I have T. Good earplugs don't interfere with the tone too much. My hearing is worth more than missing a little tone.

Re: best whistle for sticking in your pocket?

pvc pipe with corks from wine bottles. Push the cork in all the way at one end, and that's the sealed end. at the other end push the cork in half way and that end is your operation end for entry and egress.

Re: First Time at a session (in Minnesota)

Boyd, some good comments there. I'm not fond of sessions because I don't like being forced to learn tunes just because the session plays them. I guess I'm an oddball, but I play what I like. I also find that when there are several melody players, some racing and some reaching, you end up with a disj...

Re: Wooden Whistle - $5.95 from Elderly

There's also a Schylling Tin Whistle. Metal tube in bright colors: Red, Blue or Yellow. Metal is sturdy as a Generation and the paint looks like it will last, even in my hands. Plastic mouthpiece. Mouthpiece is very slightly more "rubbery" than you get with most whistles, which may mean it...

Re: Your advice best cheapo whistles

If you want cheap, try the Feadog and apply the blue sticky tack tweak yourself. I don't know if it's my imagination, but I seem to get a better sound by digging a blade into the labium (the blade that cuts the air). I don't exactly notch it, just cut into it in four or five places...about half a mm...

Re: How to get rid of stagefright at sessions?

Time. Experience. Doing it until it is commonplace to you, and no longer seems like anything unusual or special. The more you do it, the easier it gets. In a couple of years, if you stick with it, you'll look back and wonder what the big deal was. --James this was pretty much my experience as well....

Feadog is doing something right

I recently bought a nickel plated Feadog. Wow! These guys have been doing some R&D, I think. The only tweaks needed were the gummy tack in the back of the head, and loosening up the head for tuning adjustment. Even the balance between C nat. and C# is good, provided you give a little less blow t...

Ms Spears...lol.

Thanks guys. I'll stay with a mic that I can back away from. The audience won't know what they are missing.

Re: easiest tunes for a beginner to learn

I've never found slow tunes easy to play, at least not play well. I never found them satisfying. I started with easy jigs such as Lilting Banshee or easy polkas such as Finnish Polka. Slow tunes need ornamentation in order to sound good, and that's not easy for beginners. (Not easy for me either, af...

Clip-on mic

I've always been afraid of these things, fearing I'd blow the audience away when I get to the high end, or conversly, if I set the volume so that the high end is good, the low end will be inaudible. Anyone have any experience in this regard?

Re: Buzzing Noise in Low Octave

Some whistles are more prone to this than others. If you play reasonably well and there are no obstructions, it's a whistle issue.
