Re: New tin whistle
Two thoughts expressed here already that I would also recommend… The first being that you have plenty of whistles to learn on. Starting right off collecting whistles, before you've gotten a firm grip on playing techniques can often distract one from developing those techniques properly, and lead one...

Re: Bamboo whistle / Alghoza
You might try contacting Erik the Flute Maker. He used to offer bamboo whistles in various keys, as well as whistles with different variations of "scale" within keys to make them "better suited" to particular types of music…

Re: Copper Whistles
I think that in many cases, wall thickness is influencing tone, and some people mistakenly equate that difference with material. So, by extension, if one uses the term "material" in a way that is either inclusive of, or irrespective of the normal wall characteristics inherent to that mater...

Re: Feadog question
I don't believe so - but I've been wrong before. I've only ever seen them in brass. If you post a pic, there are plenty of people here who could give you a better, more educated answer than mine, as to exactly what it is that you have.

Re: Low F MK comparison
The main difference is that the Pro is tunable and the Kelpie isn't. Tone and voicing are pretty standard on Misha's whistles - gravelly is the word I use to describe them. Great for jazz. All of the MK's I've played play well, with a couple seeming to stand out a little above the others. I own a Ke...

Re: Copeland Nickel-silver D whistle for sale
I think you missed my point entirely... and I am certainly not the first and only person on this forum to make such remarks. We saw the prices used Copelands fetch skyrocket a few years back, mostly thanks to newbies bidding on eBay, who then turned around and sold them out of lack of interest, buye...

Re: Pay up front or pay on receipt, is there the right way?
I for one, would agree that lists would be too subjective. However, I am not sure that the intent of a "seller's list" is the same thing as rating a particular whistle - because it isn't... nor should it be. Folks here have always felt comfortable contenting themselves (and others) with re...

Re: Copeland Nickel-silver D whistle for sale
And, it ought to be noted that there are various selling markets with varying amounts of "value" so what is the value of a Copeland D nickel-silver whistle on C&F? Apparently $400.00 I was wondering if Copeland whistles would ever see a "correction" anywhere, short of the en...

Re: Non-whistle Influences
Beer. Just kidding. I enjoy many of the same influences previously noted in other posts, but I am also the son of a former jazz drummer and jazz guitarist... as such, I find some of Miles Davis' early interpretations creeping into my playing from time to time. Sometimes, it's just a matter of seeing...

Re: Sindt prices....
I don't mean this in a derogatory way... I do love Copeland whistles - and we watched the same phenomenon evolve with those - but at least with a Sindt, you pretty much know what you're getting. Yet as rarely as this occurs, I have to agree with Mr. Gumby. It is "silly money" to be fetchin...

Just like the title says. Prefer medium to hard blower, and tunable.
