Steve, ___Are their any differences other than the two piece body with the model you carry? ___IMO, the Seery is a great flute for the money. It's perfect for bringing hiking & bicycling, which is what I primarily bought it for. I also leave it assembled next to my computer so I can pick it up w...

Erik, I have the perfect flute for you in your price range. The price is 300 USA dollars, so it's actually at the bottom end of your range. It's the flute by John Rutzen that I mentioned in another thread. The only thing you might not like is that the head and tuning slide sections are delrin. The o...

Dave, I think there are a bunch of excellent makers out there, and depending on your needs and anatomy, any of them might make the *best* flute for you. About McGee. Check out my post on this forum and follow the link to Fyfer Restorations to see and read about my McGee. The fact you are looking for...

Jessie, I've played an Olwell, not the others. I've been to Hammy Hamilton's site a bunch of times lusting after one of his low key flutes. Never played a good wooden low Bb flute, but I bet I'd love it. I'm envious of all of you with Copley's, love to try one. I just don't think there are just one ...

Well Jessie, that's just your opinion. Notice I didn't say a McGee is *better* than anything else, just as good. No flute is best for everyone, people want different sounds, and the same flute can be easy to play for one person and hard for another. There are a bunch of great makers right now, any o...

Hi, if you want to see my new flute, check this out. http://www.home.earthlink.net/~migoya/id21_mcgee.htm
It's every bit as excellent as David writes. Consider Terry McGee if you're looking for a great flute, you won't find any better, mine is amazing.

I believe this is true. I started learning by ear only about 6 months ago and it's the best musical decision I've ever made. The biggest mistake I made was trying to learn Irish Trad from a book. Once you've learned to play pretty well by ear, using books to learn tunes might be fine, but learn by e...

Steve,
I've seen Tom Ganley's name in makers lists, but I've never seen or heard one. Could you tell us more about his instruments?
Any pictures? I don't think there are many of his instruments over here in the USA.

<<What's the thing that's so great about this cd? Is is straight traditional? Not? Fast, slow? What are we looking at here? Tony>> Tony, It's pretty much straight trad. Flute, whistle & concertina with guitar & bodhran behind it. A little field organ & harmonium too. What I find so great...

I'm in the market for a good polymer flute. My hobbies (other than Irish Trad) are bicycling, hiking and kyaking, and I want a fkute to bring along. Wood is out as I don't want the hassle of worrying about it. I've read a lot about Serry vs M&E, but wouldn't mind hearing more. Anyone play or hav...

Erik, Hmmm, 300 to 500 dollar range. If you can stretch it up to 600 you could get the Copley. Everyone who has one says they're great, as good as the best. In your range the Seery & M&E are looking good and they are at the bottom end. A very interesting looking flute that lists for 300 also...
