Re: Whistle used performing Themes in “The Hobbit Trilogy Movies”

I played with Sir Galway a couple years ago - mid 2010s - for I think 2 consecutive years at the annual Tim Janis Ensemble Christmas concert in NYC. He was playing an aluminum Burke session D at the time. Said he chose aluminum over brass because he liked "the bling."

Best flute for small hands?

Hello all, My daughter wants to start learning the flute. I’m a piper/whistle player and know next to nothing about flutes and makers. Wondering if anyone here would be willing to point me toward a solid flute model for an 8-year-old girl with small (8-year-old) hands. Hole size and spacing are part...

Happy Mother's Day - Video tribute w/ pipes

Hey all,

Tim Janis just posted a video with some of my piping / whistle playing in the first 5 minutes. Kirk Lynch D set in ebony, made in 2005. Burke high D, mezzo A, and low D Viper whistles.

Táimse Im' Chodladh (I Am Asleep)

Hey all, Sharing a clip from the studio last weekend. This is a Burke brass session D recorded with an AKG 414. This was a one-shot recording done live with piano, guitar, and percussion. Only editing is reverb and compression. Tune is “Táimse Im' Chodladh“ (I Am Asleep). https://m.soundcloud.com/us...

WTB: Kennedy D Chanter

Hi all, I’ve got some bigger gigs coming up this winter and was checking to see if anyone has a Joe Kennedy D chanter they’d be willing to part with. I just received a C from him that changed everything I thought I liked about my set!

Thanks,
Joey

Re: FS: Burke Aluminum Session in D.

I just sent you a PM, but I'm not sure it went through - lately the messages have been just loitering in my outbox after I click send. Did you get it?

Thanks!

Prefer ebony / boxwood. Would seriously entertain any responses, though.

Sassafras Whistle Cases

Hey all, I'm wondering if anyone has recently heard from or ordered a whistle case from Sassafras. http://www.angelfire.com/mo/sassafrassgrove/WhistleRoll/main.html Cases look great. I'd like to commission one but it looks like the website is a bit outdated. My email to the address listed there retu...

Re: WTB: Burke Brass High G and/or D Session Bore

Just received a gorgeous Burke high G (and F#) from one of our board members. Totally awesome. Just bumping this in case there are any Burke brass session Ds out there collecting dust. :)

Thanks,
Joey

WTB: Burke Brass High G and/or D Session Bore

Hey all,

Long shot, here. Looking for a Burke Brass High G to use on a new album with the Tim Janis Ensemble. Also looking for a session (wide) bore D. I use that whistle so much I'd like to keep another around.

Thanks!

That said, I played with James Galway at Carnegie a couple years ago - he was using a Burke session D in aluminum. Said he liked "the bling."

Re: Burke Whistle question

The Burke wide bore brass D is probably the best D I've ever played. I bring other things on the road and to the studio, but I feel that everything else keeps getting compared to the Burke session brass D in my mind. Absolutely fantastic whistle, in my opinion.

Re: Burke Bb, or F? Need infos.

My Burke Bb (brass) is one of my favorite whistles. A very well designed instrument. Use it quite often when playing with a singer - actually almost every time we play out.
