Re: Straw Poll on hirsuitity.
I guess I'd better make sure I practice with my trombone and guitar roughly equally. Then the instrument effects can cancel each other out and genetics can take over again.

Re: So what is everyone going as?
I was going to go as Dr McNinja from the appropriately titled "Adventures of Dr McNinja" webcomic. Unfortunately my Halloween plans were cancelled, so no dressing up for me. Oh well, there's always next year!

Re: Odd News
Giant prehistoric krakens may have sculpted self-portraits using ichthyosaur bones For decades, paleontologists have puzzled over a fossil collection of nine Triassic icthyosaurs (Shonisaurus popularis) discovered in Nevada's Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park. Researchers initially thought that this st...

Here's a similar video showing the southern lights from the space station:

Much shorter but still spectacular.

Re: My Wife Calls me "Dougie"
I've always just gone by A.J. From the time I was a baby friends, family, even teachers at school all called me that. I guess it doesn't really count as a nickname since it's pretty much ubiquitous. About two years ago I moved to Vancouver and decided to try going by my first name, Alan, just for a ...

Only if it's over 50cc with a top speed greater than 70km/h.crookedtune wrote:Do you need a license to drive a Vesta?
This one looks to be about 6.54 x 10^22 cc and is orbiting at 69624km/h. Getting caught without a license would probably carry a hefty fine.

Re: Asteroid Vesta Full Frame
Why is the northern half of asteroid Vesta more heavily cratered than the south? How do they determine orientation/coordinate system of an asteroid? I think it's from the direction of the asteroid's rotation. There's a video in one of the links that shows Vesta rotating in the same direction as ear...

Re: Rating Your Coolness Factor
In the interest to further science, if you actually do have a personal definition, we'd all like to hear what you have to say. This is science, you know. Then I'll try for science! My friends and I have always had a rather fluid definition of what's cool. Basically anything we're currently interest...

Re: Rating Your Coolness Factor
I'm definitely one of the coolest people I know.
In the interest of full disclosure I should tell you that I have my own definition of cool. It's a different kind of cool.

Re: Easter Dinner, what will you be having?
I'll be going to a potluck with all the aunts, uncles and cousins from my mom's side of the family so what I have will depend on what everyone is bringing. Past experience tells me there will be salads, finger foods, baked squares of all kinds and I know my mom is baking a ham. There will be about 2...

Re: On the news this morn: "UK is Downsizing the PINT!"
Not unlike ordering a yard or a meter, both ~quart-liter sizes in VERY tall glasses. All are somewhat awkward to drink from. I was at a restaurant not long ago where ordering a meter of beer got you a meter long tray full of pint glasses. It was just me and a friend having lunch so we decided that ...
