Re: Low D brass whistle

I'm looking for a Low D brass whistle I share your affection for brass whistles and am also amazed we don’t see more of them. You might ask Phil Hardy (chieftain/Kerry). I know he made a few Low Ds with aluminum head and brass tube. I have one of his Chieftain Gold Low D whistles. I solved the weig...

Re: Tweaking a whistle with a dirty/harsh sound

I just bought a new Generation “C” Whistle yesterday from my local music store. Has something changed? It was actually packaged in a display box as opposed to loose or on a card with several whistles. I mention this because I couldn’t get the head off to tweak it either. I’ve probably tweaked 10 of ...

Re: Want To Buy Low (Alto, Mezzo) G; recommendations?

I have both a Goldie and Chieftain Low G. The Goldie has a better tone (in my opinion) and the Chieftain is loud enough to hold it’s own with any group of musicians. I have often thought about ordering an MK Low G as well. I have an MK Low D and Mezzo A now and love the way they play and sound.

Re: Looking for Ian Lambe low D whistle

I had an Ian Lamb and sold it a few years ago to someone in Sweden. I never got used to it. Maybe it was the easy blowing. I would always overblow and jump octaves.

Re: Colin Goldie alto/mezzo G sizes

I have owned a Goldie Mezzo G for years. I never knew there were two tube sizes. I would guess mine is an "A" size. It's a fantastic whistle.

Re: Storing whistles in a toolbox

I have often thought about adapting a keyboard case for whistles. You can find them from most music stores on line. The trick is to find one long enough for your biggest whistle but not longer than you need.

It looked like she was using a pipers grip with her right hand in the video. Probably a victim of habit. Pretty neat idea overall.

Re: Looking for a Capo for my Mandolin

[Yet another thread revival. - Mod] Hi Linda, Check out Elderly Instruments, https://www.elderly.com/ They have capos specifically for Mandolin and banjo. There are two basic distinctions: radius and flat fretboard. Lay a ruler or any straight edge across the fretboard of your mandolin to determine...

Re: Where are your ‘car whistles’

This is a fun thread .... made me laugh and belong at the same time. I have a Generation Bb in the driver’s door.

I carry a low G, low A, and D whistle in my guitar (music) bag along with a set of harmonicas.

It’s a good life.

Re: Cheap whistle vs expensive whistle

I'm in the expensive whistle camp and am also a guitar player (expensive guitars too). Pay a little more and they seem much more stable to me. I'm more inclined to play them when performing with guitar. There are exceptional cheap whistles so you might get lucky and find one but I think I would opt ...

Re: so I finally got a guitar

Have fun with your guitar adventure. If you are a mandolin player you already have a feel for string instruments. Your guitar is a good starter guitar. I own the original version, a Gibson Hummingbird (One of my Favorites). I'd like to suggest you bring the guitar to someone who plays to make sure t...

Re: Thoughts on A Whistles...

I have both Burke Brass and MK whistles in "A". I love both of them. I would love to hear about your impressions, comparing those two. I had a Burke "A" and it was loud but with the slightly stiff 2nd octave and huge air appetite which characterises Burkes. I know what you are t...
