Another Robertson here! I live in Canada, but I'm pure Scots... at least that's what the family tree says. Father born in Edinburgh, mother born in Nairn. Love the whistle, been playing for about three years, although I've been missing it lately because I've been distracted away from it. :sniffle: M...

There is a plugin for winamp that slows music down without changing the tone. I use it all the time (it's called "slowmewp") and it's great. All you would have to do is "rip" the tune you want to learn and play it back in winamp. You could slow it down as much as you like.

I've got an Overton Bb that is just beautiful, and yes, it was peculiar to play at first. I have large hands and I still find it quite a stretch! Still... it's worth it. What a lovely sound. I've made Low D whistles but I've never attempted anything lower. If you succeed, I'll buy one!

I read a T.S. Eliot epic poem in High School called "The Wasteland" and I loved it. Not sure why the name stuck with me over the years! Nearly all my "computer aliases" are "Phlebas"... email, other forums, etc. Funny how we adopt these pseudonyms...

-Yes, but he was asking about the Silkstone, and I never said it was heavier than the Copeland, just heavy.

Can't go wrong with a Silkstone alloy soprano D... I've had mine for a year and it's great - no moisture build-up in the windway, excellent volume, superb craftsmanship and it looks good too. My only complaints would be that it is VERY loud in the upper second octave, and it's quite heavy so if you ...

... addendum to my last post: If you can't find a copy of this tune I can record myself playing it for you. I have never heard anyone on this board mention this wonderful Canadian band so you may need help getting the tune. It is on the CD "Reel & Roll" and also on their compilation CD...

There is a Canadian band (now split up) called Rawlins Cross who play a gorgeous tune called "The Wedding Gift" that was written by the piper for a member of the band who tied the knot. It is performed by Ian McKinnon on the soprano D and it was one of the first tunes I learned, and I alwa...

What a pathetic diatribe. A tantrum truly worthy of a 2yr old... good riddance.

My Laughing whistle was the same: clogging up quite a bit at first, but after weeks of playing it got much better. I guess the owner's manual forgot to mention break-in! Lovely whistle though... so crisp and clean in the second (even third) octave. Quiet too - great for late night tootling. Give it ...

I too have recently experienced a revelation in hand exercises... chinese "health balls". I find that these wonderful little balls will give greater dexterity, endurance and co-ordination. With a chiming plate inside they make a lovely sound, and I find them very good for meditation as wel...

I'm not sure if this is the one you're looking for, but Sarah Bauhan does a tune called "The Curlew" on her 1993 album "The Untamed Grasses". It's definately NOT an air - it's one of the most impressive displays of whistle mastery I've ever heard, even comparable to M.B. - but it...

Tinkerbell would be proud! We need more festivals here in Canada, and more people like you to make them fun. I am often envious when I read about all those fantastic gatherings in the USA... perhaps it's time for me to relocate...? Keep spreading the sunshine, and I'll let you know when we need you ...

That is sad news indeed. When one of the people who brought you into this world passes on to the next, it brings new perspective and great sadness. My best wishes to you, Steve, and I understand your loss. Peace be with you and your family.

Well done! Another Cillian O Briain convert. I have had one for some time, and it's my favourite Low D next to my Copeland - I even like the O Briain better than my Overton. Cillian does excellent work and Steve is a great guy to deal with. It's a match made in heaven: A superior product with a supe...
