Re: Gold whistle

I had a Vambrace made with 9k gold. Mitch said of it "The gold assists to reduce clogging and seems to enhance the tone - no idea why".

He thought it was one of his best, sound wise.

Re: Whistle Regimen and Songs for a Beginner

I found practicing the G scale helped get the Cnat fingering down for passages with runs across registers but other than that I don't know how useful. The problem is that this music doesn't always follow western scales. Many of the tunes are hexatonic or heptatonic with pentatonic sections. Ok, that...

Re: Flutes made of delrin

My first flute was a Forbes and I thought it was excellent. A wee bit sluggish on the ornaments but that was probably more my newbie status and not a fault of the Pratten design or workmanship. Wonderful range of sounds out of it...I really liked it. I've got a Somers 5 pc Pratten in the mail from D...

Goderich (Celtic Roots Festival) - Cathall King

I'm getting back into the Irish Flute after some time off. I'll be going to Goderich this year and studying a bit under Cathall King. Perhaps I'll see one of you there.

Re: Rob Forbes flute

Welcome to the board. Forbes was my first flute. I sold it to help finance my next flute but many, many times I wished I hadn't. It's a good flute.

I remember thinking about the reach but then the thought went away. It might be that it was just something new that I got used to.

Re: Jumping from 2nd D to 1st D at a clip

context of whole tune would be more helpful I'll give more context next time. Didn't want to bog down with unnecessary stuff. |:~e3 edB | ced cBc | dDB- BAG |.... or similar I learned this from a harp version where we do the "dDB" variation. OK. What's the problem? It is suckage. My low D...

Re: reviol cast bore flutes

I had problems with the notes below G until I offset the emb. back a bit. I used the butt end of a wooden spoon to move the cork. I checked with Reviol on it's placement but in the end still moved it away from his specs to match my sense of intonation. Took a while to get the embouchure down To a b...

Re: Jumping from 2nd D to 1st D at a clip

I just clicked on the clip, but got the message "This video is private. Sorry about that." It uploaded that way and I edited it to be unlisted but I guess YouTube is taking a while to change it. I would make it public but I seriously just rolled out of bed. I don't mind you guys seeing me...

Jumping from 2nd D to 1st D at a clip

I'm learning the La Fee des Dents (Tooth Fairy Jig) by A. Brunet and the B part has a jump from 2nd D to 1st D that I'm finding difficult to do at speed. Any technique advice that could help? Here is a clip of the offending playing. Pardon the pj's :-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zE_PoR18g-s

Re: Lilting Banshee Help

Wow. Billy Clifford seems to be "ha-ha" or "ha-ha-ha"ing the double and triples a lot in there. And I agree the left cuts of A are not easy...that's why I brought this up. I was doing what I thought was correct and it seemed to sound....crappy. So I wondered if maybe in that case...

Re: Lilting Banshee Help

Thanks. That's helpful hearing the different methods. When you say tongue, you mean glottal or "k" instead of "t"?

P.S. Didn't want to place the question in whistle forum since they are more likely to tongue than we are.
