Re: New to Irish flute: What to buy?
There are some 'Irish style' players who play a Boehm flute - Joanie Madden of Cherish the ladies is a great player.

Flute playing and Gerd
I had a bad attack of acid reflux or gastroesophageal reflux (Gerd) last weekend which lasted on and of over two days. It's settled down now except for when I played a few tunes yesterday, after which I could feel it coming back. Apparently it's quite common with wind players and especially flute pl...

Re: Larsen cut fingering - not used?
In the days that I was in need of a flute tutor/book I'd make my choice based on authors flute playing. So I chose June McCormack over Grey Larsen because I much preferred her playing and think she's a better player.

Plunk111 is right the links on this site - http://www.millyard-molem.com/trad_flutes.html are all dodgy.
I can't edit my post to remove it but http://www.millyard-molem.com/ looks ok to me.

Re: Tuning questions
I would agree with Conical bore I always tune to G if I can, in a session tune to a fixed note instrument like a concertina or box and preferably to a G if possible. I picked up that advice in a flute workshop a long time ago - the reason given that a G is a more stable (?) note whereas an A can var...

Re: how do i hold the flute and press the keys?
Hi, I play an 8 key flute I support the flute with my LH thumb under the flute close to the Bb key with the flute resting against my L1, on the fleshy bit between the knuckle and 1st joint, the Rh thumb goes under the flute. With the flute anchored against my chin below the lower lip it's pretty sta...

I am still looking for a supplier of large sanding sheets. There's a technique for flattening the sole of a bench plane that may be of use to you - glueing sheets of wet and dry onto a flat surface such as glass. https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=flattening+a+plane+useing+wet+o...
