Re: Questions and a request for practical advice
I have made a good number of flute cases in the past. I line the insides with suede pigskin. I have noticed, particularly on newly finished cases, where the soft pads which gently secure the flute in place, there is some lightening of the finish on the flute. All my flutes are 19th C antiques and no...

Re: F Flute
My Rudall and Rose F flute is #2021. The address is No. 15 Piazza, Covent Garden, London. It is cocuswood with ivory rings and ferrules. I have a R&R D flute in the same style (#3632) which is medium /small holes. They are a stylistic match to the tenor Bb flutes you (Terry McGee) saw at the Roy...

Re: F Flute
I would have thought that most early to mid 19th century flutes were intended for orchestral or at least band use. There are more tenor Bb flutes by Rudall and Rose that have survived than F flutes. In fact I know of no other 8 key F flutes by R&R! It is only in the 20th century that these early...

Re: F Flute
It is my fortune to be the proud owner of an original 8 key Rudall and Rose F flute from 1832. It is an absolute corker!!!!!

Re: Sealing the holes
Are you playing a large hole flute?
If so perhaps the time is right to "down size". I find my medium hole Rudall and Rose so much easier to seal.

You may get an answer here but it may be worth your while posting this message on the facebook " flute history channel". There are a number of makers and restorers who lurk there who may give some wise advice.

Re: Rudall & Rose 4322 in G&H auction
Good luck to all those who choose to , or not to, bid on this flute. All this speculation will either encourage or discourage bidders, who can tell? All it takes is for two people to really want the flute and then who knows where it will go. Since the "invention" of on line catalogues and ...

Re: Hinges and clasps for flute case.
I share your problem, suppliers I have used in the past are reluctant to sell nowadays unless you want to buy in bulk. One solution that I have adopted to source clasps is to buy a new cheap french style boehm cases off Ebay and remove the clasps to reuse. Look for the ones where the clasps are scre...
