Re: Dixon Trad Low D?

Quite expensive though. As you can see from the price labels. That shop stocks everything from Generation through to Ormiston.

Re: Dixon Trad Low D?

They do exist. I just saw one in a music shop here in Scotland. It was marked "trad". Maybe just a brass version of his other metal low d. I took a photo and will post shortly.

Re: Recording whistle/mics

I feel that some of the advice being offered is a bit over engineered for casual home recording. One of my friends does TV voiceover work, and apart from choosing a quiet room the only soundproofing is an absorbing panel behind the microphone. If you are doing casual home recording you don't need to...

Re: Recording whistle/mics

Quilts over a table covering all four sides. Record inside the "tent". Not necessarily comfortable. Alternatively, get the room as quiet as possible, record your playing followed by a few seconds of clear air and use that second recording as a sample for removing the background noise digit...

Re: When the music's lower than the whistle

I play bottom B on the whistle by end stopping it.
I can do it seamlessly on a D or C whistle.
Its an old flageolet technique.
Example here to show how un noticeable it is:

I play mainly Scottish music, a bit of Irish and I have a parallel life of whistle playing in classical and early music.

Re: What's your story?

I am Scottish and the whistle was always around. I had one but played badly. At school we had Wednesday afternoon clubs and one of them was run by a biology teacher who taught whistle so that's where I really started properly. He is still around and still playing in a band! I do enjoy playing the wh...

If you are not a bit mad before you start playing the whistle you are sure to be afterwards.

Re: Exploring the Negative Generation Urban Legend

I had a "pink" generation whistle that was this colour because it had spent a few years in the window of a music shop.

Re: Eb Frankenwhistle

I only tried it because I had a damaged Clare whistle. Mine has the poster putty tweak as well. Band O Shearers is a Scottish tune. A shearer is not a sheep shearer, its a person who travels from farm to farm during harvest cutting the wheat (and barley) and making it into sheaves. This is the short...
