Re: What kind of bag do you use?
I use Gore since 1997, also try to change as many pipes with trad bags to Gore as I possibly can. With Gore, You don't need any MCS, since it's an MCS by itself. You can even mouthblow Smallpipes with Canereeds if You use Gore and the Reeds can possibly last for Years! And You won't have any problem...

Re: The whole "Medieval" thing
I'd subscribe to that Point of View. Actually, since this "medievalternative"-Scene is working all through Europe - with some awfully racist Flavours in Eastern Europe, Nothern Italy and Northern France - in German Bagpipe-Forums, we call this Style "Acoustic Fetish Punk", since ...

Re: Blues/Funk Bagpipes
Unfortunaltely, Rufus Harley passed away July 31st, 2006. He didn't learn or use traditional Piping-Techniques but rather transferred his own Style, playing other Wind-Instruments in Jazz, Blues and Soul-Music, to the Pipes. That makes it sometimes hard to follow, when used to listening to Pipes. Es...

Re: World's Oldest Highland Pipe Chanter
Another Point is: It is not alltogether correct to say, the first Drones added to Bagpipes had been a single Bassdrone. As true as it is to say, that there's no other historical Evidence (afaIk) for two Tenors without Bass except for early GHBs, most medieval Carvings You find in Churches from 12th ...

Re: World's Oldest Highland Pipe Chanter
...what I really liked about Goodacre is that he declares, the Iain Dall-Pipes - drones as well as chanter - have more in common with Galician Gaitas than with modern GHBs. You may add: Also, it's closer to northern Italian Pive than to modern GHBs. Does that mean it is no GHB? Yes and no. It is a G...

Re: The whole "Medieval" thing
Here in Europe, the "bagpipe-side" of the "mediaeval"-scene has some very special roots: "Mediaeval-Market"-bagpipes, like You'd hear them on all these InEx, CC a.s.o. recordings - as well as on "historical" reenactments all through Europe, were invented only ...

Classical orchestral flute, fully keyed - in Delrin?
Now, here's the Problem: A good friend of mine, classical flute player (the one out of Silver, fully keyed, thus closed fingerholes) fell in love with the Sound of my Seery. So she searches for a Derlin-Flute now, but NOT an Irish-Flute, but a classical, fully keyed (thus without open Fingerholes) F...

What Flute to buy?
First of all - I am a Piper, not a Flutist, so, Part of the Problem is surely, that I dont practise enough. However - I am looking for a new Flute. For 10yrs now, I play a Seery Delrin. I like the deep Sound, but I find it hard to get the low D, also, the 2nd Octave takes so much Air, that I can har...

@pancelt: They work perfectly within my Concert-pitch Shepherd poly-chanter. Maybe You got one for concert pitch as well by mistake..?

...names ending in as-ses..? Well, ooookaaay... :D However - since this type of Belarus Bagpipe is called "Lithuanian-type" by some, I guess, since they're in Belarus only about 500yrs or so, the're CLEARLY NOT TRADITIONAL! Or, Yury, what do You think..? Oh - some argue as well, that Scott...

@Sean: I agree with EVERY WORD You wrote about so-called "Christians", even more so about Neo-"Pagan"-music as well as ancient AND modern "Germanic" Nazis. My added 5 Cent: The ancient Nazis actually destroyed every true local musical tradition - something which is only...

Re: FS, Cornemuse musette Béchonnet
This is definitely NOT a Bechonnet. The "Cornemuse du Centre, Type Bechonnet" - as introduced in 19th c. by Henri Bechonnet - may come in different keys, may or may not have a bag-cover or different kinds of Chanter&drone-stocks. But MOST of them are BELLOWS blown, and ALL of them do h...

Re: Considering a trip to Brittany (Bretagne / Breizh) in Aug'10
Well, what's so appealing to me about Brittany is exactly those many options what to see and do, this wide variety, this wonderfull mixture of definitive "Celticness" and "Savoir vivre". You have the great beers and Ciders (and better ones!) You'd find in Ireland or Scotland (and...
