Aw, thanks Dale and everyone. I'm happy to help out when I can. It's pretty amazing to see that the forums are still going strong after... holy cow, eleven and a half years???... and even though I don't play much anymore I still have a bag of whistles I pull out every once in a while.

Just jumping in with a quick update here. Dale and I have been in touch to figure out what to do next, it's mostly just that whole Bad Time Of Year thing. It may have been an Actual Problem rather than just the combination of accumulated posts and average-slow DreamHost. I'm trying my own PHP binary instead of theirs, and I've added a couple of database indexes in obvious sore spots.

I think you'd be better off posting this over in the whistle forum! This forum is for help using the forum software.
